It was a joyous celebration service on Tuesday as many family and friends from Maryborough, Talbot and Genesis Church celebrated the life of much loved Fred Davies.
Fred’s wife Coral said she was overwhelmed at the kind words and turnout of many hundreds of people at the service and graveside to honour Fred.
Fred Davies’s impact on family, grand kids and kids, his community, Council, the Talbot Football Club, and the CFA was magnanimous.
He was truly a special and much loved man.
His best mate Graham Miller spoke about their shared journey with health challenges. “In mid-2024 when I’d been critically ill and been in and out of hospital a number of times, Fred sat at our dinner table again with a coffee and a Tim Tam and said to me, ‘I’ve been thinking God’s been really good to me. I’d like to get baptised.’”
“That’s one of the greatest moments of my life, and it was the beginning of many gentle conversations… about growing a walk with Jesus.”
Pastor Matt De Haan, senior pastor from Genesis Church reflected on Fred’s story saying, “Fred came to discover what it meant to have a real and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.”
The service saw over 350 people packed into the Genesis Church Chapel and overflowing into the church kitchen with many standing outside listening to the service. Over 250 people followed the cavalcade to the Talbot Cemetery where he was laid to rest.
Family and friends continued in celebration of Fred at the Talbot Football Club for the wake.
Despite the hardships Fred faced with his health, Fred gave thanks to his much loved wife Coral, loved his kids and grandkids, and leaned into the arms of his personal savior Jesus.
As his mate Graham said, “Fred, I know we’ll meet again at the feet of Jesus.”
