Hi family and friends, please enjoy the sermon notes from Sunday.
What Jesus did on the cross for us…
- HE SUFFERED FOR ME – He shows me his compassion
- HE OBEYED FOR ME – He showed me how to live
- HE DEFEATED OUR ENEMY THE DEVIL – He brought us the victory
- HE FORGAVE MY SIN – he made way for full access to Pappa God
1 CORINTHIANS 1:17-21 MSG
“God didn’t send me out to collect a following for myself, but to preach the Message of what he has done, collecting a following for him. And he didn’t send me to do it with a lot of fancy rhetoric of my own, lest the powerful action at the centre—Christ on the Cross—be trivialized into mere words.
The message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense.
This is the way God works, and most powerfully as it turns out.
It’s written, I’ll turn conventional wisdom on its head, I’ll expose so-called experts as shams. So where can you find someone truly wise, truly educated, truly intelligent in this day and age?
Hasn’t God exposed it all as pretentious nonsense?
Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered stupid—preaching, of all things!—to bring those who trust him into the way of salvation.
HEB 4:15
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses since he had the same temptations we do, though he never once gave way to them and sinned.
HEB 4:16
“So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to receive his mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need.”
HEB 12:2
“He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace / shame / of dying on the cross…”
HEB 10:35,36,39
Do not lose your courage, then, because it brings with it a great reward. 36 You need to be patient, in order to do the will of God and receive what he promises… 39 We are not people who turn back and are lost (give up). Instead, we have faith and are saved.
COL 2:13-15
“You were dead in sins, and your sinful desires were not yet cut away. Then he gave you a share in the very life of Christ, for he forgave all your sins, 14 and blotted out the charges proved against you, the list of his commandments which you had not obeyed. He took this list of sins and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross. 15 In this way God took away Satan’s power to accuse you of sin, and God openly displayed to the whole world Christ’s triumph at the cross where your sins were all taken away.
ROM 3:23-26
Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glory; yet now God declares us “not guilty” of offending him if we trust in Jesus Christ, who in his kindness freely takes away our sins… by his blood… God shows that he himself is righteous and that he puts right everyone who believes in Jesus.
MARK 7:14-23
Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” he said, “and try to understand. It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.”… “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
